Terms of sale

These are the terms that apply when you buy from FLX Woodworks. They are written to be read, not to hide anything, and they go together with the returns and refunds policy.

Who you are buying from

FLX Woodworks is a small woodworking shop in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Contact is by email at hello@flxwoodworks.com.

Ordering and payment

  • Prices are in US dollars and are the prices shown at checkout. Shipping is added as a flat charge and shown before you pay.
  • Payment is taken in full at checkout through Stripe. Card details are handled by Stripe and never stored here.
  • An order is accepted when the confirmation email is sent. If a piece cannot be made (a board is out of stock, the wording will not fit the size chosen), you will be told and refunded in full.
  • Obvious pricing mistakes can be corrected before an order is accepted; you will always be offered a refund rather than charged more.

Personalized pieces and proof approval

  • The on-screen preview is the proof for personalized pieces. By ticking the confirmation box at checkout you approve the wording, lettering, wood, and size exactly as shown.
  • Personalized pieces are made to order and cut exactly as approved. They cannot be returned except for defects, as set out in the returns policy.
  • You are responsible for having the right to use the wording you submit. Wording that is unlawful, threatening, or infringes someone else's rights may be declined and refunded.
  • Wood is a natural material. Grain, color, and small natural marks vary between boards and from the preview, and are part of the piece rather than a defect.

Commissions, concepts, and artwork you supply

  • Sending a request is not an order. A commission request tells us what you are after. It becomes an order only when we have sent you a proof and you have approved it, and we may decline a request before that point.
  • The first-look drawing is not the proof. Shortly after you submit a request you get an instant concept sketch, drawn automatically from your description and any photo. It shows what we understood, not what the machine will cut, and it is not an agreement to make the piece. The proof comes later, is made from the file that will actually be machined, and is the only thing your approval applies to.
  • You need the rights to what you send us. By submitting a request you confirm you may lawfully use any photograph, artwork, logo, or lettering in it, and that having it cut will not infringe anyone else's rights.
  • Requests that are unlawful, threatening, or infringing are declined. Nothing is charged for a declined request.

Production and delivery

  • Custom pieces are usually five to seven days on the bench; ready-to-ship pieces go out within a few days. These are estimates, not guarantees, and you will be told if something is running late.
  • Orders ship within the United States to the address given at checkout. Please check it: a piece returned by the carrier because of a wrong address is reshipped at cost.
  • Risk passes to you on delivery. Damage in transit is covered under the returns policy if reported within 14 days with photos.

Returns, refunds, and cancellations

Set out in full in the returns and refunds policy, which forms part of these terms.

Downloadable plans

When plans go on sale, they are licensed for your own use: build as many pieces from them as you like, including pieces you sell, but the plans and files themselves may not be shared, resold, or redistributed. Because they are delivered digitally, plans are not refundable once downloaded unless a file is faulty.

Liability

Nothing here limits rights you have under law that cannot be limited. Beyond that, liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid for it. Signs are decorative pieces; please mount them securely and keep them out of reach where a fall could cause harm.

Privacy

Your name, email, and shipping address are used to fulfil the order and to contact you about it. Payment details go to Stripe and are handled under Stripe's privacy policy. If you join the launch list, your address is used only to tell you when furniture commissions or plans open up, and you can ask to be removed at any time.

Changes and governing law

These terms may be updated from time to time; the version shown when you order is the one that applies to it. They are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
